International Women's Day
On 8th March, the women of NAL celebrated International Women's Day. Our female workforce met to discuss what it means to be a woman in our workplace, what empowers us, and the experiences we have faced to share with the group. This special day also meant there was lots of cake for the whole of NAL to enjoy too!
After taking turns to pick out a discussion-based question from a lucky dip, each of us had the opportunity to discuss our experiences, thoughts and share advice on being a woman in the workplace.
Here are some of the most valuable pieces of advice we shared from our years of working in a variety of different industries and roles:
-
Trust your gut; intuition is a powerful thing
-
Regardless of someone's age, gender, experience, job title, or how long they have been at the company, no one should belittle or patronize you
-
Always take the time to help those around you, especially with training and helpful advice
-
Always be supportive, empathetic, and encouraging to your colleagues; you never know what someone may be dealing with in their personal life or outside of work
-
Always be willing to learn a new skill; you never know when it may come in handy
-
Know your worth
After a great discussion and an afternoon of getting to know our fellow female workforce better, NAL will hold a quarterly catch-up for those who want to discuss similar topics and give advice more frequently to encourage and empower the team.
We also can't wait to use this exercise for Men’s Mental Health Week!
