Controller Cabinet Base Plug and Play

A revolutionary method of cabling traffic signal poles and controller cabinets known as “plug and play” was trialed and approved by TfL.  

The trial began at 9am with the deployment of traffic management, immediately followed by the pulling of cables into the pre-installed NAL Retention Sockets and Controller Cabinet Base via STAKKAbox Modula access chambers. 

By 10:30am the pre-cabled signal poles and controller cabinet arrived on site. Using a hiab the traffic signal poles were lowered into the Retention Sockets, where the pre-installed cables were connected. With this step completed the controller cabinet was positioned over the Controller Cabinet Base allowing a Telent operative to plug the cables directly into the pre- cabled gland tray. With cabling completed the controller cabinet was then bolted to the cabinet base, marking the completion of the cabling.

With testing and commissioning completed the total time spent on site was 4 hours. A Telent operative confirmed that the traditional cabling method can take as long as 2 to 3 days. The NAL plug and play system is now standard practice for all TfL controller cabinet installations.
